The Gleaming held my interest from first page to last. It is filled with the rich environments of lands in a fantastic world. The characters are interesting, colourful and their dialogue is natural and believable.All good fantasy tales need a "Quest" and Aran and his friend embark on a unique mission to fulfill their own, adding to their company as they traverse the different lands inhabited by elves, dwarves and humans, albeit humans with some very inhuman powers.
Gleaming (or magic) is the thread that holds the journey and the characters together and we find out more about this unique ability as the story unfolds.
I'll definitely read the next book in the series. I need to find out more about the mysterious "Gleamers", what the "lesser tribes" actually are and why they're threatening Aran's way of life, can the elven folk really keep an alliance with the dwarves? Will our heroes, and heroine, survive the next leg of their journey? Can't wait.....

Waited a long time for an official published work from this master story teller...Don't keep me waiting for part 2!!!
A very well developed world, story, characters and setting. It took me away from here and let me live (very briefly) with some people I have quickly grown to like and care about. Bravo, Con! I look forward to much more.
This book had me captivated very quickly. The characters and the world they live in are very well developed. This story has the beginnings of a classic "monomyth" as Joseph Campbell called the hero journey. It was easy to become enmeshed in the story and I can't wait to read part 2. Bravo & great job Con.
The story of Aran, Edel and Mara was engaging from the start, and the characters totally relateable even if in a context that is completely strange. As part 1 unfolded, the characters gained depth and the world they live in became real. The down side, too short! I hope part 2 comes along soon so that I can continue following this adventure and become more immersed in the fantasy!
Loved this book. It was easy to be captivated early on, with characters that are well developed and likeable. A real throwback to the Dragon Lance sereies, or the Lord of the Rings! The story moves quickly without detracting from the detail the author gives to the landscapes of this foreign world. I found myself quickly attached to this small band of travelers and can't wait to see what adventures await them in part 2!
